Our Writer’s Workshop lessons continue to showcase and build upon students strengths. We are joining my 8th grade Humanities class in writing to students in Africa. Soon we will have a book complied of all the correspondence to share here at McMurray. You are welcome to come on by and check out the letters. They are interesting, entertaining and helping to build culture awareness. Accelerated Math program continues to challenge each of your students at their individual level. Students may have homework from this curriculum on Thursdays. We continue to use the SRA math curriculum three days a week and money mentors on Monday. Students really look forward to working with student mentors or being a mentor. The SRA reading program is a successful tool. All students are making gains in reading. Thank you for your support of your child’s SRA reading homework. I am not sending specific homework during this holiday break, but am asking each student to read for pleasure. Each student has had the opportunity to check out books from the McMurray library for use at home. These books will be due when they return from break Studenst in my homeroom celebrated the season by joining together to create gingerbread and candy houses. We all had a great time! Many thanks go out to Shannon Flora (Brette’s mom) for volunteering to help us out and clean up afterward. .I am enjoying working with your students. Thank you families for all you do to support them. Best Wishes for a peaceful holiday season. Sincerely, Karen Stendahl Special Education Teacher
